UN Warns Iran It Is Dangerously Close To Receiving Strongly Worded PDF
The UN nuclear watchdog has referred Iran to the Security Council, officially escalating the crisis to the international body specifically designed to ensure five countries can prevent anything from happening.
The IAEA cited Iran’s failure to explain uranium traces found at undeclared sites, prompting the UN to activate its most powerful diplomatic weapon: moving the paperwork upstairs.
Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful, while Russia and China are expected to block serious punishment, allowing everyone involved to skip directly to the traditional Security Council phase where ambassadors express “grave concern” until the problem becomes historical.
UN officials stressed the referral sends Tehran an unmistakable message: the international community is prepared to convene repeatedly.
At press time, the Security Council had begun drafting a strongly worded resolution condemning Iran’s nuclear program, Iran’s lack of cooperation, and whoever invented the veto.
