Nate Glubish Assures Furious Residents Government Carefully Listening For Brief Pauses Between Boos
Alberta Technology Minister Nate Glubish faced another furious crowd Thursday as residents participated in the province’s traditional consultation process of discovering what the government already decided.
Locals demanded answers about Meta’s proposed $13-billion AI data centre, including whether it could drain regional water and electricity supplies, while Glubish emphasized the project could create 300 jobs; an exciting economic opportunity requiring only $43 million in infrastructure per employee.
Asked why residents weren’t consulted during the government’s two years of planning, Glubish explained the land had been zoned industrial for decades, meaning locals presumably consented to Zuckerberg building a natural-gas-powered robot-brain factory sometime around 1994.
Glubish assured residents their concerns would help shape regulations currently being developed for the industry the government is already aggressively recruiting.
“Your feedback matters,” confirmed an official. “Especially now that it can’t change anything.”
