Danielle Smith Warns Foreign Governments Are Interfering With Alberta Separatism Without Properly Crediting the UCP
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is warning that Russian and American influence operations may be amplifying Alberta separatism online, raising the terrifying possibility that foreign governments are interfering with a political movement her own government spent years making easier to organize.
Smith said bot farms linked to Russia appear to be boosting separatist messaging, apparently recognizing Alberta’s grievance ecosystem as one of the few places where Kremlin propaganda can be distributed without bothering to translate it first.
The premier stressed that CSIS and RCMP officials are keeping her informed about attempts to erode trust in Canadian democratic institutions.
Smith assured Albertans she takes the threat extremely seriously.
“Undermining faith in Canada is an Alberta-made product,” said one government insider. “We will not tolerate cheap foreign imports.”
