Kenney Suggests Alberta Separatists Try Becoming Americans Individually Before Ruining Province For Everyone
Former premier Jason Kenney has asked the 6% of Albertans seeking American annexation why they don’t simply move there, rather than requiring everyone else to participate in their citizenship crisis.
The proposal would allow separatists to immediately obtain the American government they prefer while preserving Canada for Albertans burdened by insufficient enthusiasm for becoming a resource territory of a larger country.
Separatists rejected the idea, noting their movement is not about leaving Canada personally, but ensuring millions of other people leave with them.
Advocates maintain annexation would liberate Alberta from distant federal politicians, foreign interference and governments elected largely by people outside the province.
Washington, they explained, would solve all three.
Asked what Alberta would receive in exchange for its sovereignty, supporters pointed to oil.
Asked who would receive the oil, the interview ended.
