Smith Government Assures Albertans Meta Deal Will Create Thousands Of Exciting New Reasons Their Power Bill Went Up

, , , ,

After decades of deregulation left Albertans paying billions more for electricity than other Canadians, the Smith government has approved a new plan to ensure the system finally works as intended.

Meta.

The company’s proposed Sturgeon County data centre could draw roughly as much electricity as Edmonton while awaiting completion of its own power plant, introducing an Edmonton-sized corporate customer to a grid whose existing customers have already demonstrated an impressive willingness to endure whatever happens to them.

The agreement was reached without public consultation, eliminating the unnecessary step where Albertans explain that they would prefer affordable, reliable electricity.

Officials insist the project will attract investment, create jobs and demonstrate Alberta is open for business.

Albertans will remain responsible for keeping it open.

Their homes are a separate matter.
