UCP reassures Albertans there’s nothing to investigate, strongly recommends nobody confirm this
Premier Danielle Smith has condemned Treaty Chiefs for asking the RCMP and Auditor General to investigate allegations involving her government, calling the request “disgraceful” and reminding Albertans that serious accusations should be handled through the traditional democratic process of angrily denying them.
Chiefs representing Treaties 6, 7 and 8 unanimously requested investigations into concerns involving treaty rights, a proposed separation referendum, and other government actions.
No wrongdoing has been established, which investigators would presumably discover by conducting the investigation Smith believes should not occur.
The Premier stressed that inflammatory accusations have no place in democratic debate, particularly when directed at the government currently entertaining a referendum on whether Alberta should remain part of Canada.
The UCP has promised complete transparency regarding the matter, beginning immediately after everyone stops asking about it.
