Alberta Raises Highway Speed Limit to 120 km/h, Confident Problem Will Sort Itself Out
In a bold new approach to traffic management, the Government of Alberta has unveiled what experts are calling a “self-correcting population strategy,” allowing drivers to hit 120 km/h on a stretch of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway south of Edmonton.
Officials insist the move is about “respecting Albertans’ time,” though critics note it may also respect their long-standing tradition of speeding, texting, and occasionally forgetting seatbelts exist. With photo radar quietly being shown the door and fatal crashes already trending above the 10-year average, the province appears committed to letting natural selection handle enforcement.
Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen highlighted new safety features like longer ramps and upgraded paving, thoughtfully designed to ensure drivers can reach higher speeds before encountering consequences.
