Trump Labels Restaurant Protesters a “Threat,” Suggests Jail Time for Bad Table Manners

, , , , ,

President Donald Trump shocked exactly no one  when he declared that a group of women who loudly protested him at a D.C. restaurant should face jail time. Asked by a reporter if he was serious, Trump replied, “Certainly, I thought it was very inappropriate. Yeah, I think they were a threat.”

It remains unclear whether the “threat” in question was to national security or simply to the dessert course. Witnesses say the women shouted criticism over Trump’s role in reshaping the Supreme Court, though they could have been protesting:

Control Over Independent Agencies – Trump gave himself more direct power over agencies that are supposed to be independent from presidential influence.

“Free Speech” Order Used to Target Critics –  He banned “government collusion” with media or tech companies on speech, but critics say it’s a tool to intimidate opponents and researchers.

Erasing Federal Recognition for Trans People – He issued an order stripping transgender recognition and protections across federal programs which is seen as targeting a minority group.

Taking Over D.C.’s Police Force –  Trump declared a “crime emergency” in Washington, D.C., and took control of local police which is viewed as a power grab over local government.

Cutting Off Public Broadcasting – He ended federal funding for NPR and PBS, widely viewed as punishing media critical of him.

Pressuring Universities – His administration pulled funding from universities accused of “ideological bias,” threatening academic independence.

Invoking Wartime Powers for Immigration –  Trump used a centuries-old law to detain and deport non-citizens, raising due process and civil rights concerns.

Calling Drug Cartels “Enemies of the U.S.” –  He labeled cartels as “unlawful combatants,” giving himself broader military and executive authority.

Calling for Jailing Political Opponents –  He publicly said Democratic officials should be jailed, widely considered a classic authoritarian tactic.

Using Federal Troops in Blue Cities – Trump sent or threatened to send National Guard troops into Democratic-led cities, bypassing local control.

Firing Government Watchdogs – He removed inspectors general who oversee ethics and spending, weakening checks on presidential power.

Other critics note that Trump’s definition of “threat” seems to expand and contract depending on how close it comes to his steak. Meanwhile, restaurant staff have quietly suggested that if jail time is handed out for disruptions, the former president himself might want to reserve a cell.
