Trump Commutes George Santos’ Sentence, Citing ‘Imagination as a Public Service’

In a surprise Friday evening announcement, former President Donald Trump commuted the sentence of ex-U.S. Representative George Santos, who had been convicted on multiple federal fraud charges. “George was unfairly punished for doing what every politician does – he just did it better,” Trump said in a Truth Social post, adding that Santos “should be teaching creativity at Wharton.”

Santos, who once claimed to have invented the internet and survived the Titanic, thanked Trump for the “tremendous second chance to continue my work – whatever that is.” Legal experts noted that the commutation spares Santos from prison time but does not erase his convictions, “much like a fresh coat of spray tan on a broken mirror.”

Critics decried the move as “corruption cosplay,” while Trump supporters hailed it as “another victory for misunderstood fabulists.” Santos reportedly celebrated by launching a new PAC: People for Pretend Accountability.
