Poilievre Holds Commanding Lead in Race Most Canadians Wish He’d Stop Running

A new study from the Angus Reid Institute has confirmed what many Canadians already suspected but were too courteous to say out loud: Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre remains the least popular party leader in the country, and not by a narrow margin.

With a net favourability of -22 per cent, Poilievre trails Prime Minister Mark Carney, who enjoys a comparatively glowing +26, and Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet at +17. Even interim NDP leader Don Davies, who has had roughly the same amount of time to define himself as a cup of coffee cooling on a desk, fares better at -15.

Researchers note that since becoming leader in 2022, Poilievre has struggled to broaden his appeal beyond his base, which continues to support him enthusiastically and almost exclusively. At most, two in five Canadians view him favourably, while three in five report an unfavourable impression, suggesting that Poilievre’s most reliable growth strategy remains lowering expectations.
