Germany Notices Drug Smuggling Plot, Politely Mentions It to Canada

, , , ,

Calgary police, the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency have arrested two people after receiving an international courtesy call from German authorities, who politely suggested Canada might want to check its luggage carousel a little more closely.

On Nov. 20, German border officials alerted Calgary police to an alleged plan to smuggle a large shipment of drugs into Canada, proving once again that even thousands of kilometres away, Germany remains deeply committed to efficiency. Canadian authorities intercepted the shipment at Calgary International Airport, where it was reportedly not declared, gift-wrapped, or emotionally prepared for customs scrutiny.

The following day, police executed a search warrant at a home in Canyon Meadows, where officers discovered more than $900,000 worth of drugs, a loaded handgun, and enough paraphernalia to suggest the suspects were very serious about their hobbies.

Two people now face a long list of charges, while investigators confirmed that Canada’s most effective border defence this week was, unexpectedly, Germany.
