Danielle Smith fixes problems that don’t exist

, , , ,

Premiere Smith announced yesterday that Alberta will be the first province to show Canadian citizenship on its drivers licenses beginning in 2026. Smith, who has shown active support for Alberta no longer being a Canadian province, announced the upcoming change to IDs as an effort to combat voter fraud caused by ineligible voters.

While firm numbers for voter fraud don’t exist, Elections Alberta reports for the 2023-24 year that 803 Complaints (not actual charges) were made, and just 32 (less than one Alberta classroom) were for Unauthorized Voting. At 3.1% (equal to the pay raises of Alberta Teachers over the last decade) of total accusations, it appears that non citizens voting is almost as rare as Transgender athletes in Alberta Sports (~10).
