Conservative Justices Join Liberals, Prompting Emergency Meeting of Group Chats

In a development experts are calling “the first recorded instance of consequences,” the Supreme Court of the United States on Friday struck down President Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariff agenda, ruling 6–3 that the levies were unlawfully imposed under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts noted that presidents claiming “extraordinary power” must point to “clear congressional authorization,” a phrase now trending among constitutional scholars and several confused uncles.

In a twist that prompted some supporters to briefly set down their commemorative mugs, conservative justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett joined the court’s liberal wing in rejecting the tariffs. Trump called the ruling “incorrect” and said he was “ashamed” of the justices, several of whom he appointed.

By Friday evening, a small but noticeable number of die-hard backers were reportedly overheard whispering the unthinkable: “Wait… are we the chaos?”
