“Best Quarter Ever” say Clipboard Industry as Alberta Premier Faces Recall

, , , ,

Organizers of a recall petition targeting Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced Wednesday that Elections Alberta has officially green-lit their effort, prompting a province-wide run on pens, clipboards, and whatever passes for civic enthusiasm these days.

Elections Alberta hasn’t posted the approved petition online yet, though Postmedia reporters say they’ve physically seen the letter from Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure – reportedly written in the weary tone of a man who has approved one recall too many. In it, McClure confirms the application meets all statutory requirements, including the crucial test of “being filled out by people who are still willing to make eye contact.”

Smith, who represents Brooks-Medicine Hat, has not commented, though sources say she’s preparing for a “grassroots conversation tour,” which insiders describe as “running faster than the grassroots.”

Political analysts expect months of drama, signature-counting, and constitutional grumbling. Meanwhile, Elections Alberta has reminded citizens that democracy remains “not refundable, but always entertaining.”
