Alberta Separatists Clarify Outside Money Only Counts As Foreign Interference When Liberals Get It
Alberta separatists are reassuring supporters that nearly $190,000 mysteriously flooding their party before a 2025 by-election represents authentic grassroots democracy, despite some of the grass apparently growing in British Columbia.
The Republican Party of Alberta went from reporting zero donations to receiving nearly $190,000 from fewer than 50 people, many conveniently donating the $5,000 legal maximum.
Several contributions reportedly came from outside Alberta, making them potentially illegal and therefore perfectly positioned to enter Elections Alberta’s renowned investigative process of becoming somebody else’s problem.
Former election commissioner Lorne Gibson suggested the pattern deserves scrutiny. Gibson was previously fired by the UCP after committing the career-limiting error of taking election law seriously.
RPA leader Cameron Davies still finished third.
Apparently even Alberta separatism can’t win an Alberta election without foreign assistance; and sometimes not even with it.
