Alberta Modernizes Signage, Keeps Social Policy Comfortably in the Past

, , ,

Tourists, truckers, and other travelers may soon be welcomed into Alberta by something refreshingly progressive: shape-shifting signage.

The province plans to replace its old wooden welcome signs with sleek new versions shaped like Alberta itself, because when it comes to transition, infrastructure deserves to feel seen. Wood is out, evolution is in, and the signs will soon reflect a bold new identity, pending design approval and a tasteful silhouette.

Devin Dreeshen says the exact message hasn’t been decided yet, though insiders suggest it will strike a balance between warmth and plausible deniability. The winning contractor will determine both the look and the tone, ensuring the province’s first impression is carefully managed.

Critics note the enthusiasm for transitional signage stands in curious contrast to the province’s ongoing discomfort with certain human transitions. But officials insist the comparison is unfair, after all, signs don’t ask questions, require rights, or vote.

In Alberta, change is welcome. Provided it stays bolted to the ground.
