Alberta’s justice minister Mickey Amery has become the latest figurine in Premier Danielle Smith’s rapidly expanding Recall Caucus Starter Set, after Elections Alberta confirmed a citizen petition against him this week.
Amery now joins fellow UCP MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, bringing the total number of government members facing recall petitions to 22 – a figure edging dangerously close to “most of them.” One petition also targets Smith herself in Brooks–Medicine Hat, proving no one is safe, especially the boss.
The petitioner in Calgary-Cross says Amery has ignored constituents while enthusiastically backing policies described as “harmful,” “concerning,” and “an interesting choice, legally speaking.” As justice minister, Amery has not commented, reportedly because he is still reviewing whether recall petitions fall under “public accountability” or “vibes-based activism.”
The Opposition is not immune. NDP education critic Amanda Chapman also faces a petition, ensuring the recall system remains bipartisan and emotionally exhausting for everyone involved.
At press time, Elections Alberta confirmed it is running out of clipboards.
