Alberta Invokes Notwithstanding Clause; Bishop Invokes Higher Authority

, , , ,

In an unexpected twist of divine labor relations, Bishop Stephen London of Edmonton issued a solemn yet subtly scorching letter rebuking Alberta’s government for invoking the Notwithstanding Clause to send teachers back to work. “My concern is moral and spiritual,” the Bishop wrote, before politely suggesting Premier Danielle Smith might be flirting with authoritarian cosplay.

The Bishop warned that if the province can override workers’ rights today, tomorrow it might suspend “freedom of conscience and religion” – perhaps starting with inconvenient Sunday sermons. Insiders report that local angels are already whispering about forming a celestial union, demanding better working conditions and less paperwork for miracles.

While the Bishop insists he isn’t being political, observers noted his letter had the energy of someone who has just discovered his homily can trend on Twitter. “Freedom of association,” he concluded, “should not require divine intervention.”
