Alberta Independence Campaign Expands Platform To Include Sovereign Immunity From Consequences
In a development critics say feels “extremely on-brand,” relatives of a prominent Alberta separatist say they are still waiting for the $1.3 million a B.C. judge ruled he misappropriated from elderly family members suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Dennis Modry, co-founder of the Alberta Prosperity Project, a group dedicated to freeing Alberta from the oppressive tyranny of Canadian banking laws and basic accountability, was ordered in March 2025 to repay the money with interest. Nearly a year later, relatives say the repayment appears to be pursuing independence of its own.
Court documents show the appeal window has closed, but the funds have yet to return home.
Modry told reporters he found the ruling “surprising and disappointing,” adding he has asked his lawyer to negotiate a much smaller settlement, a bold fiscal strategy observers describe as “sovereignty, but for debts.”
Family members say the situation has been painful, noting he took advantage of vulnerable relatives.
Political observers say the case raises serious questions about credibility.
Modry dismissed the criticism as a “typical slam comment,” which analysts say remains the leading policy proposal within Alberta separatism.
