Alberta MLA Accuses Constituent of Weaponizing Civics Class

, , , ,

In a development that has left Alberta politics somehow even stranger, UCP MLA Angela Pitt released an open letter Wednesday accusing constituent Derek Keenan, otherwise known as “that high school principal who still assigns pop quizzes”, of abusing his position to orchestrate a politically motivated recall petition.

Pitt alleges Keenan marshalled the awesome institutional powers of a school administrator, including morning announcements and the terrifying authority to confiscate snacks, to rally students and parents against her. Sources say Keenan denies misconduct, insisting he merely reminded students to “engage in democratic processes” while handing out permission slips shaped suspiciously like recall forms.

The recall effort has reportedly split Airdrie-East into two factions: those who think Pitt overreacted and those who believe principals truly can do anything, including ban hats, fun, and MLAs.

Meanwhile, Pitt is demanding an investigation, preferably one that gives her a snow day.
