190,000 Canadians ask Pete Hoekstra to finish dismantling American democracy before starting on theirs
More than 190,000 Canadians have signed a petition demanding U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra’s removal, whose principal diplomatic achievement has been turning Donald Trump’s annexation fantasies from ambient fascism into bilateral relations.
The petition accuses Hoekstra of amplifying “51st state” rhetoric, dismissing Canadian outrage as emotional, and normalizing contacts with Alberta separatists; the diplomatic equivalent of measuring the drapes while insisting the homeowner is paranoid.
Elizabeth May is expected to bring it before Parliament this fall, giving MPs a rare chance to defend Canadian sovereignty without first apologizing for the inconvenience.
The White House has not responded, as officials are still deciding whether Canada’s refusal to be annexed counts as foreign interference or treason.
