NASA assured the public the crash posed no threat to Earth, meeting the current regulatory standard for billionaire aerospace projects: the debris killed nobody with a vote. Scientists hope the crater will reveal how impacts alter lunar soil. Regulators hope nobody asks why SpaceX may leave explosive hardware wherever gravity eventually files it.
Elon Musk has not commented, presumably waiting until the crater receives a federal subsidy and his name.
