Party Pooper: NDP Party Status “Not on the Table,” Liberals Say

, , ,

In a twist worthy of a dark political sitcom, Liberal House Leader Steven MacKinnon confirmed last week that official party status for the NDP in the House of Commons is “not on the table” — though ironically, the NDP still gets a seat at the table.

Despite propping up the minority Liberal government like a politically codependent IKEA leg, the New Democrats may not get the shiny perks of official party status unless someone finds a few more MPs under a couch cushion.

“We value the NDP’s support, in the same way one values a wobbly stepladder while changing a lightbulb,” MacKinnon stated, while adjusting his rose-coloured glasses. “But rules are rules, and unless they magically gain seats through sheer moral superiority, party status remains a lovely dream.”

The lack of official status means fewer resources, diminished speaking time, and a tragic reduction in office plants. Some suggest it’s a case of political gaslighting: a relationship where you’re good enough to be seen with in public, but not good enough to update your Facebook status for.

Former NDP leader Jagmeet Singh responded with visible frustration, saying, “We kept this government alive, and they can’t even validate our parking.”

As the Liberals continue their delicate dance of gratitude and gatekeeping, observers note that while the NDP may not officially be a party in Parliament, they’ve certainly been the life support system for one.
