Scientist Unveils Bold Climate Plan: Nuke the Ocean, Save the Planet

, , ,

In what he insists is “definitely science and not a Bond villain audition,” Dr. Maxwell Krieger, a rogue oceanographer turned self-declared eco-savior, revealed his plan to reverse climate change by detonating a nuclear bomb on the ocean floor.

“Everything else has failed,” Krieger said, addressing a room of horrified grad students and at least one weeping dolphin rights activist. “So why not give Mother Earth the shock therapy she clearly needs?”

The plan, detailed in his new paper “Kaboom: A Sustainable Future”, involves placing a Cold War-era warhead into the Mariana Trench. Krieger claims the resulting underwater detonation will “stir the oceans,” redistribute heat, and—somehow—“scare carbon back into the Earth.”

Experts have called the idea “apocalyptic,” “wildly illegal,” and “a great way to ruin literally everyone’s day.” The U.N. issued a swift condemnation, while the Pentagon released a statement clarifying that Krieger has never worked with them, and if he has a bomb, “we’d like to know where he got it.”

Krieger, unfazed, insists the blast would create a “thermodynamic slap” that resets planetary equilibrium. He’s currently crowd-funding the $600 million needed via a suspiciously successful GoFundMe page titled “Explode the Ocean for a Better Tomorrow.”

When asked what might go wrong, Krieger shrugged. “Worst case? Giant tsunami. Or we summon Godzilla. Either way, people will finally pay attention to climate change.”

The sea, notably, had no comment.
