As the Supreme Court sharpens its pencils for Louisiana v. Callais on October 15, Democratic voting rights groups are sounding the alarm, and possibly the funeral bell, for Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. In a report obtained by Politico, Fair Fight Action and Black Voters Matter Fund warn that if the Court scraps the law’s key anti-discrimination provision, Republicans could redraw as many as 19 House seats.
Analysts say that would give the GOP a “permanent majority,” assuming voters continue to behave like lab mice in a rigged maze. The Court’s conservative justices, meanwhile, insist they’re merely interpreting the Constitution, not holding it over a shredder.
Asked for comment, one anonymous Democratic strategist sighed, “We just wanted fair maps. They gave us an Etch A Sketch.” The Court declined to respond, though its silence reportedly came in a tidy 6–3 decision.
